| We are incredibly honored to have one of the greatest tango composers and pianists of today, Julian, joining us for three days, along with four other incredible musicians. This is Julian’s only engagement on the East Coast, and we are humbled and fortunate that he has made time to teach and perform at the Philadelphia Argentine Tango School.
Activities take place Monday through Wednesday evenings, replacing our regularly scheduled events. Please take advantage of this extraordinary opportunity. Whatever your level of Argentine tango dance and/or music involvement, you will learn A TON and have a great time.
ALL LEVELS of tango dancers and musicians welcome, including those with no experience of any kind.
MONDAY, JULY 29
Musicality Workshops for Dancers & Active Listeners
Available in studio and on zoom
7-8:15 pm: Part 1. The Essence of Tango: A Lecture & Conversation. Perialta’s insights on what makes tango, tango from the past until now. Perialta will talk about music and cultural history, focusing on the 4-5 major orchestras of the past, and “Tango de Hoy”. Participants is encouraged to come with a “blank mind”, with zero assumptions about what tango should be before this workshop. We hope for active listening, and active questioning and discussing for this session.
8:30-9:45 pm: Part 2. Applying the concepts above to movement: A Workshop. Partnering with Meredith & Andres, we interpret these concepts with our bodies. Since the concepts are fundamental; we believe they are applicable to all levels of dancers.
TUESDAY, JULY 30
7-9:30 pm: Dinner, Movie and Q & A. Movie Presentation about Perialta and his work, his contributions to the international tango scene since 1990s; with Q & A discussion after movie. We’ll order pizza. Please bring something to drink. (Please pre-register so we calculate the order right.)
WEDNESDAY, JULY 31
7:30-8:45 pm: Concert Presentation of Julian Perialta’s music with a live band
9 pm-midnight: Palermo Fishtown Milonga featuring LIVE MUSIC(danceable repertoire) and DJ Andres Amarilla
