Tango with Winnie Quartet Workshop-Milonga at TangoVida, Milwaukee, WI

We are excited to share with you this unique opportunity to experience the vitality of tango through dancing and learning together all weekend long! We invite all dancers from Milwaukee and neighboring communities to join TangoVida April 29 and 30th for workshops and live music milonga.

Our guest teachers are Catherine Young and Craig Rypstat of Tango House of Madison. The Saturday night milonga will feature live music by Tango with Winnie Quartet and DJ Marquis Childs. Winnie will also offer musicality workshop right before the milonga.

We are offering a Saturday full day pass which will include all workshops and the milonga. The pass will be available for purchase through March 20th or until our workshop groups reach 30 students. All classes will be limited to 30 students to ensure conducive learning.

April 29th Schedule

12:00-1:30 p.m. “Walk the Walk” All Level Workshop by Catherine and Craig

Learn the details for an elegant and expressive walk. Fine tune your balance, posture, and partnering skills. We will also explore pivots and how they can be incorporated into the walk.

2:00-3:30p.m. “Let’s Play!” Intermediate Level Workshop by Catherine and Craig

Creating a dance with your partner is a collaboration based on communication. We’ll explore the give-and-take that underpins effective communication between partners and opens up possibilities for play and improvisation.

7:00-8:30p.m. “The Magic of Tension and Release: Musical Phrasing & Rhythmic Variations in Music and Dance” All Level Workshop by Winnie Cheung

This workshop will consider the key structures of tango music and how to naturally express this in our dance. We will play, dance and get into the different layers of some iconic tangos to see how the magnetic push-and-pull happens within the music and the dance. It will also get into the most common rhythmic variations in tango music with examples of different orchestras and movement figures to express in each one. It is a super-interactive, hands-on class – you will be dancing solo and/or with a partner.
