Excited to show Dr. Alban Couěffé‘s NTNU World Music colleagues and students the best of Argentine Tango in music and dance, Tango With Winnie team up with Julian Peralta to give an overview of tango in history and in realtime sound and sight.

Returning to the talented student pool of Taiwan National University of the Arts (TNUA) in Taipei, the Winnie Team once again will show how Argentine Tango has evolved from past to present in music and dance.  We will perform live tango from all eras, and to interpret them in movement.

Tango Musicians of Taiwan - let’s play together!  All levels and all instruments welcome — We will spend the day learning 3-4 tangos together, playing them in the true style of Argentine Tango.  Coached by Julian Peralta, Winnie Cheung and Janice Lee, you’ll experience Argentine Tango in a way you have never had before, guaranteed!  Optional performance opportunity is lined up for you a week later at a friendly concert with Winnie on Dihua Street at a wonderful arts resto-cafe.

Returning to Winnie‘s favorite ambassador work of bringing tango to young children, Tango with Winnie will go to Taichung Secondary School to play all day for teenagers from age 12-17!  Most of them will have never heard of tango before, and that look of surprise and glow on their faces is the best reward for us!

You’re invited to a 2-day course full of stories and musical anecdotes recounting the history of tango since the beginning: from the 16th century Spanish invasion to the musical contribution of the African slaves, the european immigrants of the 19th century, and those of the Caribbean and indigenous communities.  It will be an evening full of musical examples; dancers are welcome to interpret the moment!  All levels welcome.  No partners necessary.  Wear comfortable clothing.  It will be translate from Spanish to English to mandarin.

With 34 musicians on stage, you’ll be guaranteed blown away by the sheer musical and dance talent of Taiwan!
